怪しいUSB NICの動作報告

写真のUSB接続のNIC JP108(?)は、2010年2月前後に、秋葉原のツクモ12号店並びのあたりのどこかの店で、 700円前後の値段がついていたもの。付属品はドライバが入ったCD-Rのみという超バッタ仕様。 Vendor=0x0fe6, Device=0x8101だった。

Sharp Netwalker用に有線LANのインターフェースを探していたので、とりあえず買った。Linuxでは、dm9601というドライバで動作させることができるようで、Linux 2.6.29以降ならVendor=0x0fe6, Device=0x8101はソースの変更なしで利用可能。 CentOS 5(Linux 2.6.18)でも、drivers/usb/net/dm9601.cにベンダとデバイスのIDを入れたらそれでも動作した。同じように、NetWalkerでも適切にモジュールを改変しコンパイルしロードすれば使えることを確認できた。

どうやらUSB 2.0のHigh-Speedには対応していないみたい。一方でEthernet側のLinkは100Mbpsが使える。
